Born on June 3, 1988, in New York City, the young man grew up in the notorious Harlem neighborhood. He developed a love for rap music at a young age and began writing and recording his music in his early teens.
In 2010, Dave East caught the attention of Nas, who signed him to his Mass Appeal record label. He released his first mixtape, “Change of Plans,” in 2011 and quickly gained a following for his raw and authentic style.
The Rise to Fame
In 2016, the solo artist released his breakthrough mixtape, “Kairi Chanel,” which received widespread critical acclaim and earned him a spot on the XXL Magazine Freshman Class list. He followed up with several other successful mixtapes, including “Paranoia: A True Story” and “Survival,” which solidified his place in the rap game.
In addition to his solo work, the hip-hop artist has collaborated with several other artists, including Nas, Jadakiss, and Fabolous. Several hit songs feature him, including “No Shopping” by French Montana and “Phone Jumpin’” by A Boogie wit da Hoodie.

The Inspiration for the Music
Here is an old Dave East video mix I made back in 2018. Back then, youtube copywriting was much stricter, and artists did not allow you to use their music. It is great to see this shift where the artist still gets credit and paid while I get to showcase my skillset as DJ.
I have been a fan of Dave East since day one, as you can see from some of the ancient videos of his I sprinkled throughout the mix. I love that you can watch his evolution as both a lyrist and storyteller in his tracks. It also helps to have Nas as a mentor.
